The order type plays an important role in creating a new listing. When a seller creates a new listing, they first choose the category they want to list in and then the order type they want to use.

If you have enabled multiple order types for the category, then the seller needs to choose one of them when posting a new listing. If you have enabled the price field in the order type, the seller needs to add a price to their listing. If you have enabled online transactions, the seller will need to fill out their payment details to receive money.

How Do Order Types Affect The Search Results?

If you have enabled multiple order types on your site, users will see an "All Order types" drop-down above the browse view. This drop-down lets buyers filter listings based on the order type.

On choosing “All Order Type”, all the listings irrespective of the order types will be displayed. On choosing a specific order type, then only the listings for the chosen order type will be displayed.

If you are using the list view, you can also display the listing type next to the listing. You can do this by enabling the “Display listing type in list view” in the listing preference settings in the admin panel

Different Categories Can Have Different Order Types.

Yes, any category can have any order type assigned to it. It’s up to the admin to decide which order types to be assigned to which categories.

What To Think About When You Create A New Order Type?

When you create a new order type, there are several things to take into consideration. The first is to decide what order type or order types you should have on your marketplace. In many types of marketplaces, only one is needed as you are only renting or selling but in others, you might use two or more order types.

When you have created the new order type, you need to decide the following

  1. The order type’s name that the users and sellers will see

  2. The text on the checkout button. If you are renting cars, “Rent” or “Rent this car” might make more sense than “Buy” for example.

  3. For many of the order types, you need to choose if you want to allow sellers to determine a price and offer online payments. If you do not offer online payments, you can still show a price or show no price at all. If you only show the price or no price at all, online transactions are disabled.

  4. Decide if you would like to set the pricing units or use the availability management option.

  5. If you have enabled online payments, you can choose shipping as an option. If shipping is enabled, But shipping fee will not be available when you choose the Availability Management option

  6. If you wish to have a pricing unit or online payments but do not see an option for it, you need to change the order type template
